Whist Card Game 🃏 Play on Crazy Games

The Whist Card Game is a classic and competitive four-player trick-taking game. Played in two teams of two, the objective is to win as many tricks as possible by playing the highest-ranking cards within each round. The team that scores the most tricks after multiple rounds emerges victorious.

Game Setup

  • Players: 4 players form two teams of two, sitting opposite each other.
  • Deck: A standard 52-card deck is used. The ranking goes from Ace (highest) to 2 (lowest).
  • Dealing: Each player receives 13 cards. Cards are dealt one at a time in clockwise order.

How to Play Whist

  1. Trump Suit: A random card is revealed to determine the trump suit, which outranks all others during a trick.
  2. Leading the Trick: The player to the dealer’s left starts the first trick. Players must follow suit if they can.
  3. Winning the Trick: The highest card of the led suit wins—unless a trump card is played, in which case the highest trump wins.
  4. Following Suit: Players must play a card of the led suit if available. If not, they may play any card, including a trump.
  5. Scoring: Teams earn points for each trick won above six. First to 7 or agreed-upon score wins.

Game Variations

There are several house or regional variations of Whist. Some may include bidding systems, alternate scoring rules, or use of multiple decks for extended gameplay.

Winning Strategies

  • Track the Cards: Keep mental notes of high cards played to estimate what remains.
  • Team Coordination: Learn to read your partner’s play style and intentions without verbal cues.
  • Trump Timing: Use trump cards strategically—ideally in moments that swing the outcome of a round.
